Pembroke Dock v Tenby Ladies
11th May 2017
Last Thursday afternoon, Tenby Ladies played their third game of the season over at Pembroke Dock, where we received a very warm welcome. Unfortunatley the weather was not so kind and we were forced to take an early tea break to avoid a downpour. Before the break, Pembroke Dock Ladies on rink two were having an excellent start, leading by 10 shots to four after eight ends. After tea, everything changed and the Tenby rink consisting of Carol, Meryl, Jan and Gerry started to make progress and it was all even at 11 each at the 13th end. Tenby's luck held and the final score was Tenby 26 Pembroke Dock 12. Over on rink one, the Tenby team of Margaret, Liz, Lynn and Jo went into an early lead and were ahead by 11 shots to three after the eighth end. Pembroke Dock fought back well, but Tenby managed to maintain their lead after the tea break, with the swingy hand on the ditch side seeming to suit them. The final score was Tenby 21 Pembroke Dock 10.
Tenby Ladies v Tasker
3rd May 2017
Last Wednesday evening saw Tenby Ladies play their second game of the season against Tasker Haverfordwest. Looking very smart in our new shirts and jackets, we knew we had another battle on our hands as two of our skips were missing from the normal line up. On rink 5, Katie played an impressive game on the mat and soon scores started to even up with us pulling back to 10-all after 12 ends. It was not meant to be, however, as Tasker stepped up a gear. Final score on Jo's rink with Katie, Liz and Lynn was 19-10 win for Tasker. Rink 4 was an entirely different game, with Carol, Meryl, Jan and Gerry storming away to a 13-3 lead and Tasker fighting hard to claw back some shots. It was a great battle with Tenby holding on for a final winning score of 18-13. On rink five, Liz rolled a wood on the wrong bias and had shot wood on rink four - good job it was a trial end ! Many thanks again to Lesley Fisher and Tenby House for their continued sponsorship and support.
Saundersfoot Ladies 3 pts. Tenby Arches Ladies 3
16th August 2016
Tenby Arches ladies’ away fixture was played on a lovely summer’s evening last Tuesday at Saundersfoot. It was just a week before that the Arches ladies won their home fixture against Saundersfoot, but playing away would be a greater challenge. The game finished with both teams winning one rink apiece and with a tied shot count of 30, the game was drawn, with three league points going to both sides. Alison’s rink of Meryl, Liz and Jo were drawn against Ceris and her ladies. The game was evenly contested throughout, but a count of three shots on the last end secured a win for the Saundersfoot rink by 16 shots to 14. Helen with Margaret, Jan and Gerry in support were up against Steph’s quartet. The Arches ladies got off to a great start and found themselves 11 shots ahead with six ends to go, but their fortunes changed somewhat as Steph’s rink got back into the game, winning all the remaining ends, but the nine shots won fell short of what was required and so it was the Tenby rink that held on to win by 16 shots to 14.
Tenby Arches Ladies 4 pts. St. Issell’s 2
24th August 2016
Tenby Bowling Club was the setting for the Arches ladies game against St. Issell’s ladies on a rather dismal Wednesday afternoon in summer. As the ladies left the green so the rain came, but not before the Arches ladies had wrapped up another win by 42 shots to 27. Alison skipped the rink of Liz, Katie and Jan, who were all in great form. Such was the dominance of the Arches ladies, with a special mention going to young Katie Dickinson, that they restricted the St. Issell’s rink, skipped by Beryl, to winning just five ends. The game finished with a 25 shots to eight victory for Alison’s rink. Helen skipped the rink of Margaret, Meryl and Gerry and looked to be in control of the game at the midway stage, but a fightback by Sue and her team turned the game around, collecting 13 shots in six ends to run out victors 19 shots to 17. The four league points won consolidates third position for the Arches ladies, who are sponsored by Tenby House Hotel.
Tenby Arches Ladies 4 pts. Saundersfoot 2
10th August 2016
An experienced Saundersfoot ladies team, peppered with Welsh international bowlers, were the visitors to the Sutton Street green last Wednesday evening. With the game restricted to 18 ends, it was an important fixture for both teams who were lying third and fourth, respectively, in the league. It was the home side who went on to win the game by 40 shots to 27 and so consolidating third position in the league. On rink five, Alison with Lynn, Meryl and Jo in support got off to a disastrous start and by 10 ends were 17 shots to three down. They recovered some of their composure and won seven of the remaining eight ends, but the shot count was just not good enough, finally losing by 19 shots to 12 to the Saundersfoot rink skipped by Steph. Helen’s rink of Margaret, Jan and Jerry were having a much better evening. The Arches quartet dominated their game, losing just six ends in an impressive 28 shots to eight victory over the Saundersfoot rink skipped by Ceris. Continued thanks go to Tenby House Hotel for their support.
