Tenby v Fishguard & Goodwick

Peter Day Lee WilliamsonTenby 136 v Fishguard & Goodwick 41

9th May 2015

The Giltar Hotel, sponsored Tenby Carruthers Team, entertained Fishguard and Goodwick at their Sutton Street headquarters last Saturday in the first of three group stage fixtures.

Rink 1: Paul Diment’s four of Cameron White, captain Joe Richards and Luke Guymer played Tom Jones’ rink.  The Tenby four were never in any danger in this game after taking a count of ‘5’ on the first end.  Two singles on ends two and four, for the F & G rink saw the Tenby rink lead by 6-2.  Then followed a scoring run of 11 consecutive ends for the lead to be extended 27-2.  A late rally by the Tom Jones rink, winning ends 16 to 21 by 5 shots to 4 saw a little respectability on the scorecard, but still a comprehensive winning margin of 31 to 7. Rink 2:  Due to the absence of Ryan Thomas, Chris Court was switched from Keiran Peregrine’s rink to play with Craig Guymer.  A late withdrawal from vice-captain Gerald Hewit saw the introduction of Ashley Hooper to play with fellow five arches skip and Carruthers Team Manager, David Spencer.  The rink trailed 2-4 after four ends but a count of 4 followed by a sequence of 3, 5 and 2 put the Tenby rink in charge and they finished off winning 27-11. Many congratulations on Chris recording his first ever win for Tenby and I am sure he will remember it for the rest of his days.

Rink 3: Mike Jackson and Five Arches Captain, Ben Cloake, made up the front end of Kerian Peregrine's four, with John Roberts playing third.  The rink had a similar start to that of the Paul Diment rink, picking up five shots on the first end. They then dropped three shots on the second end.  A Scoring run of three, two, two, one, four and 5 shots put them 23-3 ahead, with Ben Cloake impressing with consistent line and length. Final score on the rink was 34-15. Rink 4:  The superstar rink of Lee Williamson, Andrew Muskett, Peter Day and the farmer, Aaron ‘tractor boy’ Lloyd played on rink 4 – the furthest away from the club house – which disappointed the hundreds of people who had turned up to experience this Rolls Royce rink in action.  It has been many years since Tenby’s second best ever player treaded the hallowed turf of Sutton Street wearing the Royal Blue of Tenby but it was like he had never been away and he soon got this well oiled rink into top gear (0 to 19 shots in 10 ends). Six counts of ‘3’ combined with a ‘4’, ‘5’ and a ‘6’ saw them swagger home by 44 shots to 8.A third top rink in a row for Day and Muskett. In conclusion, this was always going to be a win for the Sharks against F & G, but credit to the visitors who kept going and we as a club wish them all the very best for the remainder of the season. Tomorrow, the Sharks visit Whitland, who will still be smarting over a very big defeat against Pembroke Dock in their first Carruthers group fixture. Then the following week, it will be no doubt the decider between Tenby and Pembroke Dock at Sutton Street for a place in the knock out rounds for the Champions League version of bowls – The Carruthers Shield.

Team selected to play Whitland:

Rink 1:  Cameron White, Joe Richards, Ryan Thomas and Paul Diment
Rink 2: Mike Jackson, Jon Webb, John Roberts and Keiran Peregrine
Rink 3: David Spencer, Ashley Hooper, Luke Guymer and Craig Guymer
Rink 4: Gerald Hewitt, Aaron Lloyd, Peter Day and Andrew Muskett
