25th July 2016

Another away game and another loss. Inexplicably form has deserted the Five Arches Ladies team losing for the second time in a week by the maximum six points to nil and by 39 shots to 29. With six ends still to be played, the Tenby girls were ahead on both rinks and held an overall lead of eight shots, but they then suffered the same disastrous finish as experienced at Pembroke Dock dropping 18 shots and gaining just two. Helen had Jan, Carol and Gerry in her rink and lost by 19 shots to 14. The girls had a poor start then picked up their game to get ahead only to lose it all at the latter stages. It was a mirror performance by Alison’s rink of Margaret, Liz and Lynn losing finally by 20 shots to 15. Tenby Arches Ladies are grateful for the continued support of Tenby House Hotel.

Pembroke Dock Ladies v Tenby Five Arches Ladies

19th July 2016

Five Arches Ladies hopes of reaching pole position in the league all, but evaporated in the sun at Pembroke Dock last Tuesday. The 46 shots to 32 defeat was certainly a setback, but on the day, the Arches ladies, who are sponsored by Tenby House Hotel, lost to the better side. With Helen away and Carol still suffering with back problems, changes had to be made. Gerry moved up to skip the rink of Margaret, Liz and Jan and were on track at 17 ends to win the game with a three-shot lead, but then disaster struck dropping 12 shots in the last four ends to lose the game 25 shots to 16. Alison and her rink of Lynn, Meryl and Jo have been consistent all season, but it was not their day losing by 21 shots to 16 and were never to get in front during this five shots loss.

Tenby Arches Ladies v Picton

June 16 2016

Tenby Arches ladies needed an impressive display in this Thursday evening fixture to exorcise the demons of their previous poor display in the rain against Fishguard. The Tenby ladies certainly did this, winning the game by 50 shots to 26, but what was more encouraging was the determination shown at the start of the game. Alison’s rink of Lynn, Carol and Jo were 17 shots to seven up at the halfway stage, while Helen’s rink of Meryl, Liz and Jan were an incredible 17 shots to one up. The Arches ladies looked in complete control. Alison’s quartet continued to dominate their game, finally winning by 31 shots to 12, but Helen’s rink suffered a sudden loss of form or was it that Picton ladies found some late form? Seventeen shots to one soon became 17 shots to 12 as Helen’s rink lost six consecutive ends, but with three ends remaining, Helen’s girls held their nerve to win by 19 shots to 14.
This was another six points gained to keep them in contention at the top of the league. Tenby Arches ladies are sponsored by Tenby House Hotel.

Haverfordwest Tasker v Tenby Arches Ladies

10th July 2016

This game finished with one rink winning comfortably and the other losing heavily on a difficult playing surface at Haverfordwest. With a superior shot count overall, the Tenby ladies returned home with another four league points to keep them in contention at the top of the table. Helen skipped the rink of Meryl, Jan and Gerry and after winning the first end were never able to get into the game. At the midway stage, they had a 10 shots deficit and their form did not improve, finally losing 27 shots to 13. On the outside rink, skip Alison was supported by Lynn, Katie and Jo, who were having a much better day than Helen’s quartet. Eleven-year-old Katie Dickinson was playing her first league game for the Arches ladies and what a game she had. Once she switched her play from the backhand to her forehand, she consistently got woods close to the jack and helped her rink to an impressive 33 shots to nine win, which included a six shots haul on the penultimate end. Well done Katie and the ladies for helping you through this first game. The 46 shots to 36 win was another high scoring game for the Tenby Arches Ladies, who are sponsored by Tenby House Hotel.

Fishguard v Tenby Arches Ladies

June 19 2016

‘I can’t stand the rain’, the classic song by Tina Turner, was on the lips of all the Tenby Arches Ladies last Sunday as it never stopped raining during their away fixture at Fishguard. The game was in some doubt as the Fishguard captain wanted to call the game off, but as the men, who were also playing on the green, decided their game should go ahead, the ladies reluctantly followed suit. The ladies agreed to a shortened game of 18 ends, but this was further reduced during the game to 15 ends at the request of the Fishguard captain as the green became dangerous, with ladies slipping and falling in the continuous downpour. Helen’s rink of Meryl, Jan and Gerry managed to draw their game, but Alison and her rink of Lynn, Liz and Jo went down by five shots. This was not a game of finesse, but just bowl it as hard as you could and hope for the best. The result was disappointing for the Arches Ladies, losing against Fishguard Ladies who could only put out two rinks of three players. The adjusted score was Fishguard 24 shots to the Arches Ladies’ 19, with just the one league point going to Tenby. This was a setback for our ladies, but they were just happy to get off the green and get into some dry clothes. Tenby Arches Ladies are grateful for the continued support of Lesley, Martin and Kelly, of Tenby House.
