Last Friday evening, St. Katherines of Milford Haven were the visitors to the Sutton Street green for a Division Two league game against the Five Arches. On a beautiful evening for bowls, the Kats found the Arches in top form, winning on all rinks and picking up the maximum points on offer to maintain their top of the table position. On rink one, Tiger and his cubs were back to winning ways. After their lean pickings in their previous game against Fishguard, they produced a fine performance against K. Walker and his rink, running out winners by 34 shots to 11.

On rink two, Gerald and his crew of Ron, Jim and Peter had another tough game on their hands. This was a close encounter all the way through and by the 20th end it was still all-square at eighteen shots apiece. On the last end, Ron put one smack on the jack, the Kats four were unable to shift it and G Man and his boys were home and dry. On rink four, Dai and his men were up against Kats captain Owen Evans and his crew. Dai’s rink got off to a flying start, picking up 16 shots in the first five ends. With the Kats foursome only giong on to score on seven ends, the Arches rink ran out comfortable winners by 35 shots to 11.

On rink five, the captain’s rink, skipped by Ashley, produced the biggest win of the game. With Joe unavailable due to work commitments, Jonno was moved to lead, with Harold coming in as second. Winning 15 of the 21 ends, the rink cruised to victory by 50 shots to six. Another great team performance from the Arches, who will play St. Thomas in the Brains Cup final this coming Sunday.
