Tenby v Tenby Golf Club

Tenby Bowling Club 110, Tenby Golf Club 125

Tenby v Golf ClubTenby bowlers welcomed Tenby Golf Club to their Sutton Street green on Friday night for their annual ‘friendly’ clash. The match is played in memory of former Observer editor, Arthur Ormond MBE, who was a prominent member of both clubs. Although weather conditions on the night were rather miserable, with rain putting a slight damper on proceedings, an enjoyable time was had by all who took part, both on and off the green. And, after what proved a closely fought contest, on this occasion it was the golfers who finally wrested the magnificent Arthur Ormond Memorial Bowl from the grasp of the Bowling Club.... although it needed much head scratching by the statisticians to finally sort out the result! Why? Well the bowlers did actually chalk up more shots in the 18-end six rinks game, 145 to the visitors’ 125, but as club secretary and captain for the night Dai Spencer revealed afterwards, under strict bowling rules, because the hosts were unable to field a full side, they had to lose 25 per cent of their score. The subsequent deduction therefore left the golfers celebrating a rare victory. Dai is seen above, left, presenting the trophy to the late Arthur Ormond’s son, Richard, captain of the golf club team.
